Plans and Purpose

My Plans ~ His Purpose

My Plans

It’s usually somewhere between going with my gut and before I’ve figured out my next move that I start to get nervous. I always have a backup plan for my backup plan, but I still second guess myself when making big moves. I’m not so much that I don’t have faith in myself, as it is that life has taught me some tough lessons. Things often don’t work out the way I’ve planned, so I never make a move without more than one option. Sometimes my plans get me in trouble.

His Purpose

The problem lies not with the fact that I make plans – plans are good. The problem is when I make my plans without His purpose in mind. Planning without purpose is pointless. Planning with purpose is powerful. So how do we balance the two? How do we even know what God’s purpose is for our lives? And… What if we aren’t ready to embrace His purpose for our life?

Just Ask

Just ask. Ask God to order your steps. Ask God to show you the way. Ask God to close doors he wants to be closed and open those we are meant to go through. The most important part of that is to seek His guidance. On more than one occasion, my children have asked me how they will know what God wants, and I’ve always told them the same thing – like anyone else – talk to Him and listen to what He has to say. That means we should pray and read our bible. We speak to Him, and He speaks to us.

When His Purpose Becomes Our Plans

When His purpose is at the heart of our plans, we can be assured that they will stand because we are following His will.

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand. Proverbs 19:21
