God's Faithfulness To Us

Semper Fidelis – God’s Loyalty To Us

God’s Loyalty To Us

Semper Fidelis means “Always Faithful,” The US Marine Corps motto. Striking in its simplicity and powerful in its promise. Fidelity is essential for a good relationship, promoting and maintaining trust, and often where I fall short with God.

I saw a meme the other day, which posed the question. What if we treated our Bible like we treated our cell phones?

Truth of our devotion

To be honest, the idea itself felt a little excessive. But why should it? Why am I not leaning on God at a time like this? Why don’t I feel the urge to pick up the “phone” and give Him a “call?” What if I really did begin to think of the bible as an extension of myself?  I wonder how the course of my life would change if I did just that? Sometimes we rail against God for His “silence,” but His message is missed often because we aren’t listening. It’s an easy enough concept to grasp. At least, that’s what I tell my children,

“Hey, if you’re the only one speaking in a relationship, and it’s almost exclusively to ask for something – what kind of relationship do you have?”

A bad one.

“So, what do you need to do to make it a good one?”

Listen.

“OK, then where can you find out what God has to say about something? Where does He speak?”

In the bible.

It’s so simple.

The Answers Are Already There

The Bible is filled with the teachings of God, His words, His spirit. What better way to understand just what He would want me to do in any given situation than to study His interactions? Why do we wonder so much about God’s loyalty to us, when we should be worried about our loyalty to Him?

So why do I find myself always shortchanging my time with God – not my time to ask – my time to listen, to read, & to discover?

It’s time for me to do better. Thankfully, HE is more faithful than I am. Semper Fidelis.
