Too Blessed Tuesdays: Transient Beauty

Too Blessed Tuesdays

Transient Beauty

One of the most awe-inspiring aspects of our world is the sheer magnitude of transient beauty that abounds in every season. Whether it’s a pristine blanket of snow kissing the winter landscape, Snowdrops in springtime breaking through the frozen ground, or purple Bearded Irises sprouting on some forgotten path, it’s as if God decided that one color, one blooming thing, one magnificent masterpiece was not enough.

Flowers

Instead, he provided a splendid slideshow of coral Beach Roses and yellow and orange Daffodils, pink Azaleas and red Chrysanthemums, blue Hydrangeas and white Dogwoods to give us something new and beautiful to look at every day.

Birds

The birds, too! Red-winged Blackbirds, stout orange-breasted Robins, Blue Jays, and Cardinals, along with lovely earthy Sparrows, yellow Goldfinches and Warblers. Even their songs display His magnificent creativity.

Trees

The trees look strangely stoic when covered in snow, sparkle when sheeted with ice, bring hope with the first hints of yellow-green, stand strong and mighty with deep verdant hues of forest green, and then give a final triumphant hurrah of splendor when the leaves turn from green to yellow, to orange and red in the fall.

Hints

Why would our God care so much about transient beauty? Something that is here today and gone tomorrow? I wonder if it isn’t just to show us that He cares about even the smallest of things. Maybe it’s to show that He is the creator of diversity of beauty and power, and provision. Perhaps it is so that when He says that “The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the word of our God will stand forever,” He’s showing us the biggest picture ever. He fills our world with beauty and majesty to give us hints about all He has in store for us.

Thank God He is the creator of blessings and beauty all rolled into one!
