Overcoming Fear

Overcoming Fear

When I first decided to try to create a bible study, I thought about what kinds of topics interested me the most. I brainstormed and came up with a decent size list. There were a lot of things to choose from but I settled on Overcome Fear.

Why? you ask.

Because I was struggling with fear myself. Not that horror movie fear where you’re walking around jumping at every sound or nervously approaching every corner with a weapon in hand. Nope – just your garden variety My situation seems too complicated. I’m trying to handle it, but nothing seems to be working out, kind of fear. That insidious, doubting the power of God kind of fear.

I’ll Do It Myself

Growing up, one of my favorite, or at least one of the most oft-quoted books in our home was The Little Red Hen. In case you haven’t had the great pleasure of reading the book, I’m going to spoil it for you. The Little Red Hen wants to make bread and asks all her farm animal friends to help with different things. Unfortunately, everyone is too busy doing this and that. Each time, the book repeats, “I’ll do it myself, said the Little Red Hen, and she did. When it came time to eat the delicious-smelling bread, all the animals mulled around the window. But, by that time, the Little Red Hen was fed up, and she ate it all by herself.

Independent Woman

That do-it-myself attitude made me a fiercely independent woman. The problem with that is that when you don’t leave room for God to do His thing – you miss out. It can also be a self-limiting attitude as well since if everything relies on you, then that means you get to hold all the stress of making it work too. So – enter fear. Relying on God is an everyday struggle for me. Each day I have to pray again to give it over to Him. You’d think I’d have it down by now, but I don’t. Some days I’m pretty chill – others, not so much.

My Bible Study

So, when I went about writing this bible study, it was a way to remind myself of all the reasons I need not fear. It was a way to focus on key scriptures, reflect on what they really meant, and then apply it to my life. It has been encouraging for me and I hope it will be for you too. Right now it’s on a presale discounted rate until next week. If you’re interested, head on over to my Thrive Shop, grab a copy, and let me know what you think.
