Paddling Out In Faith

There is something incredibly humbling about paddling out into the mist. You may have a faint idea of what lies ahead, but the way is unclear. Passing waves may catch you off guard until they are right on top of you – too late to meet them head-on. Only the strength of your arms or the arms of you and your partner can push you further toward your shadowy goal. It’s lonely and quiet on the trip. You need to put your faith in your skills as a boater and your knowledge of the terrain. Tempting as it may be to stay in view of the shoreline, the most wonderful experiences come from being surrounded by the early morning fog until the light of day burns through to reveal the beauty of your surroundings.

Canoeing out onto mountain lakes in the wee hours of the morning is a lot like life. You are on your own; the decisions you make will either help or hinder your course. But, man! The view is spectacular. The trip is worth the effort, and if your faith is in the right thing, the journey can open your eyes to more than you ever imagined.

When we place our faith in Christ, we often don’t know what He has in store. We often have to paddle out into the mist without knowing when we will be hit by a rogue wave. But if we rely on Him instead of our own ability to try to find a path, the reward can be spectacular.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3: 5 & 6
