Show, Don’t Tell
The first thing that struck me was today’s verse – I have it pasted to my laptop as a reminder. I don’t have to be enough; Christ will be enough for me. The next thing that struck me was that I had just eaten a keto muffin and had broken my intended fast. Had I just read this a little earlier, I might have had the strength to power through. Finally, there was something in the reading passage that struck me in a way that I had never thought about before. Jesus commanded the demons to be silent so that they would not reveal who he was. It seems his mantra was show, don’t tell.
Celebrity Isn’t Always Fun
Lots of people want to be celebrities. Not something I would choose for myself, but I do like my privacy. Twice in the passage a demon or demons cry out that Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah. And, twice, Jesus shuts the mouths of the demons. Why? Being a celebrity opens doors. Countless people become interested in the mundane goings-on of your life. Lots take pictures. So why didn’t Jesus want these Demons blowing up His spot?
Why?
Perhaps he felt trapped. Maybe he just wanted some peace before the storm. Or, it could have been that the haters would have damaged His ministry as it was just starting out. How many times have you told something to someone for encouragement only to have them turn around and discourage or sabotage you simply because they were haters?
Show, Don’t Tell
There is a lot of wisdom in not telling people what you are doing. It’s far more impactful if one day your living on the streets and the next time they see you, you have a job, an apartment,and nice clothes. We don’t have to brag about what’ve done, or what we can, or what we WILL moving forward. Let hem sleepon you. When all is said and done and the dust rises Show, don’t tell the world the great things He has in store for you.
