Reaching Through The Rubble

After things have collapsed around us, it’s tempting to collapse with it. The weight of broken dreams, broken relationships, broken lives or careers is so massive it can weigh you down, trap you, cripple your mobility, and crush your spirit.

What is that ineffable quality that some people have that preserves them during these times? What keeps them screaming and reaching through the rubble? It’s not merely survival, hope, fear, faith, stubbornness, or responsibility. It’s more than that – so much more.

How do people who’ve taken a ‘lickin’ keep on tickin’?

Maybe, it’s in those times we see beyond ourselves. Maybe, it’s in those times it’s easier to tap into the strength that God is waiting to pour into us. Maybe, it’s in those times that we free ourselves of all our hang-ups, expectations, inhibitions, and let God reach through us.

Isaiah 40:29 He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.

Nehemiah 8:10 Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Psalm 46:1-3 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.

Psalm 138:3 When I called, you answered me; you made me bold and stouthearted.

Psalm 16:8 I have set the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
